This book is kaleidoscope of the lives of Pakistani women, living their daily lives . . . But I had to find the voice to do so, in fact, I had not only to find a voice in a literary sense. I had to learn to speakfirst of all acknowledging that the Pakistani womens experiences had never been represented or acknowledged. We are not recognized for who we are. We needed a vocabulary to bring us out of the shadows. My choice of these particular women was the peculiar mixture of fragility and courage I sensed in them, and a willingness to share their experiences. Initially, they felt they had nothing of any consequence to say. I have lived a very ordinary life, nothing special that is worth mentioning, was their initial response, but as their stories began to unfold revealing a saga of silent metamorphosis; their journey toward self discovery had begun. They had a world to say and the world needed them to say it.
