Tainted dragon blood grants the drinker temporary invulnerability and regeneration from grievous wounds. For this reason, the dragons are being hunted near extinction, and one dragon has made an oath to end it... and a dragon always fulfills its oath.
A dragon keep is attacked, and the young dragon, Maerek, is captured and taken back to a cave where the dragon blood is stored. There, he beaten and interrogated for information about other keeps. While in captivity, he meets an older dragon named Boshk. Boshk explains that he has found a way to escape, and can help free Maerek , under one condition: Maerek must rescue Boshk’s daughter, Mearto, from being a slave and guard to the Seer of the Tesirans. As Boshk sacrifices himself, Maerek escapes and fly eastward to the city of Tesiran capital of Noiknaer.
While traveling, Maerek is continually hunted by Tessíran agents sent to kill him by the Tesiran Seer. What does the Seer know? And how can Maerek, with all of his dragon intellect, outsmart someone who can see into the future?
