Princess Kayla Sipesh was given to Lord Athan Vercilla and removed from Tordania over twenty years ago, to clear the way for her brother to one day take the throne. While Athan thought the young princess would make a nice plaything, he slowly became obsessed with her. Kayla never reciprocated Athan's feelings, and after ten years of captivity, she vanished.

Athan now knows she's alive and living with the Nahli in the Northern Wastes. He will do whatever it takes to reclaim her. No price is too great, even if it means destroying the entire Nahli race to get to her. Terrified she will be the death of her adopted people, Kayla leaves the Wastes to seek help from the outside world.

One of Athan's sons goes missing during a reconnaissance mission to Tordania soon afterward. Athan becomes suspicious, and he goes to discover what has happened. Unfortunately, the trail of clues leads him right to the woman he's dreamed of recapturing for the last decade.
