Andrew Lang was a Scots poet, novelist, and literary critic. Although he did not collect the stories himself from oral primary sources only Madame d'Aulnoy and Lang had collected tales from such a large variety of sources, which made the collections immensely influential. The Turtle and His Bride is one of his fairy tales. There was once a turtle who lived among a great many people of different kinds. This turtle was kind and pleasant, but he felt rather lonely. He built himself a hut and when it was quite finished he looked about among the young women to see which of them he should ask to be his wife. It took him some time to make up his mind, but at length he found one girl who seemed prettier and more industrious than the rest, and one day he entered her home, and said: 'Will you marry me?' What has she answered to him? How will the story end? Read the story to find out.
