Aquaponics is a variation of hydroponics in which a symbiotic relationship of fish and plants is exploited to produce food. Aquaponics has the advantage of producing food in virtually any type of land with a hard foundation and with access to electricity or sunlight. Aquaponics is also capable of efficiently producing not only vegetables, but also fish- a potent source of dietary protein. The system is simple to implement and maintain, working roughly the same way as a soil-based system, without the land constraints that is subjected to soil based agriculture.

This book provides information about the novel aquaponics concept, and it investigates how aquaponics can be used as a mainstream method of food production.
