William Ralston Shedden-Ralston was an English writer and linguist, mostly known as an expert on Russian life and popularizer of Russian folklore and literature. “The Warlock” is a mysterious story, entered in “Russian Fairy Tales, A Choice Collection of Muscovite Folklore". The story is about a man, who lives in the village and has three married sons. It is said in the village that he is the wizard. When he is about to die, he gives orders that his sons' wives one aloner should keep watch over him for three nights after funeral; that his body should be placed in the outer chamber, and that his sons' wives should spin a wool to make him a caftan. The man was the wizard in very deed, so his orders will turn for son’s wives tragically.
