Computers are great tools when they work properly. When they don’t, they often become a nightmare for the user. I wrote this book so that many could save an unnecessary call to the help desk or the technical support line. We all have been in the position of going through a cascade of automated prompts to finally reach a real live person who doesn’t speak our language and further aggravates the situation.

I know this sounds crazy, but the first thing you sometimes need to do is to step away from the computer. take a walk. Get something to drink. Call a friend. Sometimes it is so easy to get “tunnel vision” and become so frustrated with the situation that common sense goes right out the window. I am guilty of this more than anyone I know. When i finally do walk away from the computer I often have “duh” moments where i suddenly realize the answer to my problem. The solution presents itself so clearly and find myself smacking my head and then returning to the computer and resolving the issue.

I hope you find this book useful and insightful.
