Set in the First World War, Thorns of the Rose is the story of two upper class British Officers whose devotion to the memory of a dead woman drives them to take excessive risks in their efforts to stop a new kind of warfare- the bombing of civilian targets from the air.

Sweeping in its scope, and full of characters from the pages of history books, Thorns of the Rose examines the changing nature of war and how how such changes not only threaten peace, but the very concepts of chivalry and honor which have long brought a measure of humanity to the inhumanity of war.

Captain Ralph Edgeway must find a way to avenge his fiance's death by stopping a new type of Zeppelin.  He is ruthless and single-minded in his crusade against them, but how far can he go without losing the decency which once defined him?
