Chapters include: Adventures of Captain Woodward and Five Seamen in the Island of Celebes; An Accoutnof the Loss of His Majesty's Ship Phoenix; The Narwal or Sea Unicorn; Loss of the Brig Tyrrel; Wreck of hte Rothsay Castle Steamer; Loss of His Majesty's Ship Queen Charlotte; Shipwreck of the French Firgate Medusa; An Account of Four Russian Salors, Abandoned on the Island of East Spitzbergen; Wreck of a Salve Ship; and accounts dozens of other catastrophes. A few mention the "Flying Dutchman", not as a myth, but as a serious threat that governments unsuccessfully sought to eradicate.
