The search for gold in Alaska offers opportunities for narrow escapes and exciting adventures no less than the military campaigns which have absorbed a large number of young heroes. Mr. Stratemeyer has managed to impress the necessity for pluck and industry by telling illustration. He has endeavored to picture this pioneer life as accurately as possible. Nearly every incident cited has been taken from the actual experiences of miners in the gold fields.

This edition of the book contains four original illustrations, rejuvenated, and six additional mining illustrations that are unique to this edition of the book.

Edward L. Stratemeyer (October 4, 1862 – May 10, 1930) was an American publisher and writer of children's fiction.

He was one of the most prolific writers in the world, producing in excess of 1,300 books himself, selling in excess of 500 million copies, and created the well-known fictional-book series for juveniles including The Rover Boys (starting in 1899), The Bobbsey Twins (starting in 1904), Tom Swift (starting in 1910), The Hardy Boys (starting in 1927), and the Nancy Drew (starting in 1930) series, among others.
