Meet Creavan, Tom and Mickey, young wizards living in the aftermath of a post apocalyptic earth. They discover mystery and adventure in their everyday world. A world where magic works instead of electricity, teenage twins Creavan and Tom struggle to master their new Mage skills and strive to pass school tests and survive werewolf attacks. They also must learn to handle their new Esprits, and deal with the mystery of Mickey's origins.

Creavan desperately wants to become a hero like those he reads about. His biggest obstacle is he can’t learn magic until he turns fourteen and undergoes the Magic Ritual. When Tom finds a way for them to take the Mage Ritual early, the boys end up in deep trouble with everyone: The Mage Town Council, the school, and their family. However, Creaven’s school quandaries are only half of what’s troubling him. He has a mysterious, newly adopted sister with trust issues. Tom’s resentful attitude towards her is causing him problems. Creaven does understand his brother’s attitude even if he doesn't share it, but will this cause a rift between the brothers? There are rumors of bad werewolves wandering the town too, and Creaven has uneasy feelings toward their new house. Losing their older brother only a few years earlier has left a deep ache. Like Tom, he doesn’t understand his parents apparent lack of concern about it.
