Tropical boutique owner Kristen Maroney is lying low in an effort to recover from a broken leg that she sustained while trying to help a friend with a real estate problem. The last thing she wants is more drama in her life.

But her faithful friend and neighbor Liz has a problem. Her new love Bernice is acting strangely and she doesn't know what to do. She needs Kristen to flush out the reason for Bernice's strange behavior, and Kristen doesn't feel she can say no because Liz has been there for her in the past.

So Kristen decides to pay Bernice a visit, during which Kristen discovers that Bernice is acutely uncomfortable talking about her family in Guatemala. Her incurably nosy self, Kristen cannot resist poking at things despite her vow to lay low.

She soon discovers that Bernice's Guatemalan brother is missing, so she agrees to make an inquiry. Little does she know that a casual computer search will lead to carrying a loaded handgun in order to protect herself from murderous traffickers who are hot on her trail.
