Cuando se le ocurría la idea de un relato, solía esbozarlo de forma muy rudimentaria y guardarlo en un cajón. Luego, si un editor le pedía un cuento, y Virginia Woolf tenía el humor propicio para ello, sacaba el esbozo del cajón y lo volvía a escribir, en ocasiones muchas veces.
