I’ve always had a thing for cops. I can’t explain it. Maybe it’s the uniform or the cocky way they swagger around, ready to snap into action at a moment’s notice. Whatever the reason, I would feel my temperature soar when a cop would appear. That’s the way I always felt at the diner when Brad would walk in.
I worked the graveyard shift at Cory’s Diner, so things would be pretty quiet and lonely around midnight. That’s when Brad would come in, politely tip his cap and take a seat. “Hey, there, Patsy. I hope your night’s going well.”
Tuesday night was a night just like any other. I was bored and lonely until Brad showed up. But seeing his handsome face brought me to life. I could feel a shiver come over my body as I walked toward him, my eyes shyly aimed at the floor. “Everything’s going just great, Officer Taylor.”
He chuckled. “You’re not under arrest, honey. Feel free to call me Brad.”
Hearing him call me honey almost made me melt. I nearly dropped the pencil and notepad from my hand. “Ohhh, okay, Brad. You want the usual tonight?”
“Yep. Tuna fish sandwich and orange juice would really hit the spot after the crazy day I’ve had.”
