The boxed set comprises the first three volumes of Varigo, the fast-paced and humorous Spanish crime fiction series set in the Alpujarras of southern Spain. In volume 1, Jesús the healer turns investigator when his cousin Juan’s severed head is found on the mayoress’s desk and the Guardia Civil prove themselves as useless as they look. In Volume 2, the Guardia Civil chief has failed to work out whodunit. He has been sooo incompetent that they are forced to promote him. He’s then replaced by, of all things, a woman, Sargenta Carmen Ramírez Paragón, who begins her own investigation. In Volume 3, Pepe of the Guardia Civil can see that his bank balance is not a happy matter, nor is his sex life. Money would help in both cases. To this end, he partners up with the foreigner Stuart Christopher, marijuana grower extraordinaire. That is until he finds his partner shot between the eyes, ready for the compost heap. On the one hand, it is a loss, on the other, it is a business opportunity.

All three books have Notes for Discussion for use by reading groups, or just to think about.  Enjoy!
