One year, a peasant sowed a crop of rye and had a bountiful harvest. So poor and hungry were the animals that the field mice, and the birds raided his barn and cleared his harvest. Too late to sow another he took his gun and went to the forest to hunt some game. He spied a beautiful eagle with a broken wing and raised his rifle to his shoulder. Before he could fire the eagle spoke to him saying “Kill me not, good hero.” Astonished that a bird could speak engages in conversation with the bird of prey. The eagle makes him promise to feed him for three years, three months, and three days while he heals in return for abundant wealth...................…….
