If Archie Bunker and The Grumpy Old Men had a three-way, VERNON would be
their love child!

Ornery, foul-mouthed, mean spirited, WWII Vet, Vernon, has just found out he has a short time to live. From his home in small town Iowa he tells his only child that his last wish is to die surrounded by his son's happy family back in California.

Unfortunately Vernon’s son Bill Kiley has cheated on his wife, got kicked out of the house and divorced, all in the space of a few months. But Bill has been too afraid to admit to his mean old man that he has become a failure as a husband and father. He knows Vernon will never let him live it down so he’s kept it a secret.

Now Bill has to convince his wife Crystal and 2 kids to let him move back in the house, bringing the unlikable, coarse and crass Vernon with him, and pretend to be a happy family until Vernon leaves the scene.

Grudgingly and only because he is dying, Bill’s wife Crystal agrees, even though she has always despised the crude and rude old man. She feels she’s doing the ultimate good deed. However, though still crusty and class-less as ever, Crystal and the kids develop a deep bond with Vernon who shares his own style of crotchety wisdom to help the family solve every day issues.

This is spoiling Bill’s secret wish is to use Vernon as a tool (sorry Vernon), to weasel his way back into the house and hearts of his family before Vernon departs this world. Great dialogue, hilarious scenes, memorable characters!
