Viking raiders travel the seas west to England for gold and treasure, but when laying siege to the Devorn castle, the Viking leader, Jarl Eriik Thorennson spies a lady of the manor in the tower and decides gold isn’t the only treasure he’ll be taking back to his homeland. When given the choice of destruction of her home or leaving with the Jarl, the lord’s brave daughter, Lillian, goes willingly across the sea to the Norse lands. As horrible as her fate seems, little by little her heart warms to Eriik and she soon finds herself bewitched by his charm and falls in love with him. On the precipice of their happiness coming to fruition, she is kidnapped by emissaries sent by Lord Montfort, the conniving and evil Lord to whom she had been betrothed by her mother, interested only in wealth and political gain that Montfort could provide. Before she is taken from Eriik’s land, Lillian is forced to write a letter by her kidnappers telling him she doesn’t love him and never did. He is heart-broken and swears to never give his heart to another woman.
Montfort will force Lillian’s hand in marriage by threatening her father’s life, so she does as she’s told.
After weeks of drowning his sorrows, by chance Eriik discovers Lillian’s letter was written under duress and he and his men take to the seas on a raid to England, not for silver or gold this time, but to rescue Lillian.
When Eriik arrives, with her father’s life in danger, she tells Eriik she couldn’t be happier and is glad to be back home and betrothed to Lord Montfort. Even though Eriik is devastated that he traveled all the way to England on a fool’s errand, Lillian is quite convincing.
He can’t believe he could have been so wrong about the woman he loves, but is forced to make the decision to return home. As he makes plans to leave, Lillian’s hand maiden escapes the castle and tells Eriik everything, including the fact that Lillian is carrying his child.
Eriik and his men devise a plan to sneak into the castle, free her father and rescue Lillian, but as Eriik is about to free Lillian he spies Lord Montfort holding her with a lethal looking knife to her throat expecting to be allowed to escape with her as his hostage. Eriik vows to never leave Lillian in Montfort’s evil hands again and just then he finds the precise moment he needs and shoots an arrow straight and true through Montfort’s eye, rescuing Lillian in his arms before she can even fall to the ground with the villainess lord.
Eriik and Lillian sail back home, join together in a beautiful wedding ceremony, have a healthy son as handsome as his father, and live happily ever after.
