Janice snaps, “Yes, starting with the film that you want us to make.”
I sigh, “We have to make a film sexy enough that Billy will stay a few moments to watch what's going on and not notice too much about what's going on around him.”
Janice thinks for a moment and then says, “I don't have to be nude.”
“Okay, but it at least has to look like we're getting ready to have sex.
Janice says, “Yeah, but I can wear a sexy little nightie, with panties.” (She emphasizes the last two words.)
“Fine, we can do a bit of what the English call slap and tickle. We just have to make it last long enough to detain Billy, until Doyle can get there.
Janice says, “Okay, Billy comes over the back fence.”
“Is there any other way that he can get into your yard?”
“Not really. The fences are pretty high. He would walk along the top of one neighbor's cement block fence and then drop into my back yard. He would then try to leave the same way. It would take quite a bit of effort to get back out, but he should be able to do it. I checked things out, when I first heard of the peeping tom thing.”
“Okay, that takes care of Billy. Now, now about Doyle?”
Janice says, Well, there's a wall toward the street end of my backyard. The wall has a gate, that I always keep locked.”
“The fateful night, we can fasten the gate with just a piece of thread that won't even slow down Doyle. Doyle comes through the gate, which entry shuts off the movie. Doyle chases down Billy. I grab and hide the projector, while you draw the window drapes. We then, alerted by the fuss, run out your front door, to find out what's the matter.”
Janice thinks and says, “I have my cell phone. I call the police for backup. I get a police car, right now, one of the benefits of living in a high income neighborhood. The police see that we're fully dressed, in good clothes. Thus, Billy was lying about what he saw in the window. Neat.”
“Even neater is that Billy has confessed to being a peeping tom.”
Janice muses, “Okay, the police have Billy. The police have a confession.”
“Heather files for divorce from a mentally disturbed sexual predator.”
Janice says, “She still probably has to pay him something.”
“Probably less than what it now costs to maintain him in the granny flat.”
Janice says, “True. What then happens to Billy?”
I ask, “What is Billy now doing with his life?”
Janice shrugs and says, “Nothing.”
“Billy is living out his miserable little existence by illegally peering into the lives of others, through a midnight window.”
Janice muses, “The people of this town will never stand for that.”
I lecture, “The people of this town have elected a Chief of Police. That, there elected official gonna take Billy down to the bus terminal. The Chief gonna say, 'Billy you living out your miserable little existence by illegally peering into the lives of others, through a midnight window. The good people of this town aint gonna stand for that. You gonna get on the bus and you gonna ride. You ever come back to this town, you gonna go to jail for something, anything. That's just until we can stack up enough arrests to put you in prison, not just jail.'”
Janice says, “Yeah, although I may have to write it down for the Chief.”
“In any event, let's get this matter wrapped up.”
Janice then takes a hit of her drink and tells me, “Alright, I'm gonna make your damn movie, but only because I need to help out my best girlfriend from back in high school.” Janice pauses, realizes how phony what she has just said was and she then say, “Okay, we'll have a little fun making the movie. Particularly you'll have a little fun making the movie. However, I want you to know that it would normally take a lot longer, before I let you have that much fun.”
