"And so a tortuous, roundabout refugee trail sprang up: Guatemala City to Tecún Umán, across the Río Suchiate to Tapachula, then by third-class bus or foot along the Pacific coast to Arriaga in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas..."

In 2010, Australian journalist Matthew Clayfield spent a week in Arriaga with a group of illegal Central American migrants, or indocumentados, as they waited to hop a freight train north in the direction of the US border. Referencing everything from the Mexican drug war and Hurricane Stan to Casablanca and the Eagles, the resultant article is an original and highly moving contribution to the current immigration debate.
