The first genetically engineered wizard. The first wand. One dangerous combination . . .

Fifteen-year-old Nick Hammond is juggling classes and shaping his 'Plan' when the warlocks recruit him for their mysterious W.A.N.D. Project. They hope this device will be powerful enough to turn the tide, and destroy the mythics, hordes of Lovecraftian monsters threatening to escape the Adirondack Preserve.

But the strain might be too much for the journeyman wizard. Between classes like Healing Arts, Divination, Mageball, and Fantastic Beasts and How to Kill Them, and a volatile relationship with a Shaman girl named Delrisa, Nick quickly becomes a walking wardstone (wizardspeak for time-bomb).
Few know the secrets to his true nature, and none will reveal to him his connection to the Mythmage, the mystical man who summoned the mythics to their world.

Frustrated and furious, cracks begin to show.

In such a fragile state, Nick falls prey to the lure of sorcery. He sees this darker shade of magic as the method to which he might forge a successful wand. Now, as the Mirrorman haunts him, and mythics breach the wards protecting the Institute of Magic, Nick will have to decide which path to travel. Will he take the road leading to the Mythmage and to his long sought answers? Or will he choose the path of heroics and fame, and face monsters both real and personal?
Both paths are fraught with peril. Both will take their toll.
Either way, the fate of wizardkind is in his white-knuckled hands, in which Nick Hammond will be clutching the world's first Wizarding-Anti-Nemesis-Device.
