Aaron Adamson is both the owner and lead programmer of his own software company: Merrick Corporation. After one day of work on his next program that he sees will be revolutionary, he goes to his regular bar to rest. The bar is a regular stop for many business managers, executives as well as workers who stop for a relaxing time before the night crowds arrive.

He is a regular there, so when he sees a strange woman, he notices how out of place she is: she doesn't look like someone there to rest and relax, but the way she moves and looks about makes Aaron think she is trying to catch a cheating boyfriend in the act. With that as his impression, he quits paying attention to her and orders his food and drink.

As he finishes eating, the strange woman comes inside. She pauses a couple times when looking upon him, but then returns to looking elsewhere. One time, she doesn't look elsewhere. Her demeanor unnerves Aaron. She approaches him, verifying that he is Aaron Adamson of Merrick Corporation; she further goes on to describe details about his life and work - even mentions projects he hadn't begun working on. Those future projects would lead to a war where most of humanity will be killed.

She comes to convince him that his programs will bring forth the destruction of Man, and that she will forcibly stop him from working if he refuses to listen. She knows this future will happen because her boyfriend is from the future and came to warn her. With that, Aaron dismisses her as under the influence or just crazy. He leaves her, and returns home.

Back at his house, he becomes unnerved as he thinks about how that woman knows such details about him. At his home, she knocks on the door. He tells her to leave, or that he'll call the police. She disappears into the darkness, and he hears the sound of glass shattering in the back of the house.
