After being told time and time again about hanging outside with all the neighborhood boys, thirteen-year-old Sharika and her best friend Jamilla began to understand why. Soon, Sharika and Jamilla known for being inseparable would find out that things aren't always what they seemed; they were in fact clueless. And after a night at the neighborhood park, they would find themselves involved with some hoodlums that loved the street life and everything that was involved. They still maintained their innocents but wanted so badly to come out of their shell. Truly being exposed to the harsh realities of life growing up in low income housing in Miami; they never felt the pressure because they had everything they wanted and more. They thought that by them being involved with hoodlums that had street credibility, somehow would perfect the lifestyle they already possessed. They had in mind that they were playing checkers only to find out that they were playing chess. Sharika and Jamilla had always been taken good care of by family until they found someone else to take care of them which would ultimately lead to jealousy, bitterness, deceit, regret, and death. Everything that looked good wasn't and once you burn a bridge you can't come back across.
