Michael Collins, owner of a 4 star hotel chain and single father of a toddler needs help. He thought he left people he could trust in charge of his business while he fought for his daughter one last time. He was wrong. Now his manager in his Columbus, Ohio hotel is been fired, his assistant is in jail and the mess they left behind is not going to be easy to clean up. But first he needs a new assistant. Not knowing what else to do he calls his friend, Jasen Chaplin to vent his frustrations. Jasen suggests he give his sister a try. She has experience, is trustworthy and is in need of a new job.
Sandra is an editor in a small newspaper, or at least she was. Due to cutbacks she was just given notice. With student loans and other bills she needs to find a job, quickly. The call from her brother couldn't have come at a better time. After an interview, both Mike and Sandy decide to give each other a chance, while trying to ignore the immediate attraction. Then the day after the interview someone tries to kill Sandy. The next day someone tries to burn down Mike's house. Now Mike is trying to protect Sandy's life while trying to figure out who is attacking his home and business. At the same time trying to keep things professional with his new assistant. Even though he knows he can trust Sandy, he knows what its like to be hurt.
Sandy was hurt bad by her late husband. She has stopped jumping at shadows, but has almost given up on a happily ever after. Now she has to decide if she wants to push for a future with her boss or try and follow his lead, to back off. But his kisses are just too hard to ignore. Then again, before either of them can plan for a future, they have to handle whoever is after them in the present.
