All mountains are the same. But some are red. And some are gray.
A Buck in the Snow tells the story of a young college graduate taking a road trip across the country, but the work is more concerned with his mental journey and the way he perceives the natural world around him than with his literal travel. Sommer Nectarhoff's writing style is unconventional and experimental, resulting in a bizarre and not always linear stream of narration, but certainly contributing to a new angle of insight into the psychology of being.
--Excerpt From Page One--
I wake up in the dark dark room to a scratch and a low rumble. Through the glass in the bathroom I see that the day-star has risen above the lake. Little waves of wind ripple unseen through the air above little waves of water on the lake and I can see the little wind-waves waving unseen through the waving blades of grass in the turf outside the window before the water-waves on the lake. During the night the sky was cotton-picked and now there is just the blue sky and the sky-blue lake-water and the day-star shining out over all of it.
That is all there is.
