Considering that shepherds go on endlessly about God speaking directly to Moses and others in the past, I would have thought there would have been a mad rush to meet those who God had spoken with in our lifetime. Not so. People who claim to have seen and/or talked with God are immediately suspect. At the mental hygiene clinic where I worked, people who claimed to have seen and/or spoken with God were considered mentally ill or liars. The two hundred or so preachers I interviewed seemed to have about the same opinion of these people who spoke with God as did the staff at the Ft. Bragg Mental Hygiene Clinic. The preachers had in common this opinion: "What these people are saying is that they heard God in their mind, not with their ears." In other words, if God doesn't speak to shepherds in their ears, then He certainly doesn't speak to the sheep in their ears. The only way to properly introduce this book is to provide a couple of excerpts. God's reported answers throughout the book are italicized. "God, my aunt would not give you the correct time of day and treated my mother like dirt. Yet, you saw her through three serious operations and let my mother die. How could you put my aunt before my mother?" God's answer: "By your mother's request." _ _ _ "God, I thought I heard a lion. Are you there, God?" God's answer: "You did. You're drunk again, and you're at the zoo."
