Did you know that the only desert in Europe is located in Greece? Did you know that Greece has an exotic beach full of palm trees, or that one of the most important Neolithic Age settlements in Europe is located in northern Greece? Perhaps you would like to know which uninhabited islands are best for exploring, or where to find ancient temples and monuments off the beaten path, places only locals know. If you are interested in exploring secret and relatively unknown places in Greece, you chose the perfect book.

Greece is a country of unparalleled beauty, with amazing beaches and unbelievably picturesque islands, with delicious food and great people. Most of you have heard of or some might have even experienced the riches of Greece. You might have done island hoping, visited the most famous Greek islands like Mykonos or Crete, or even seen magnificent ancient monuments like the Acropolis in Athens. Greece has so much more to offer though, than crowded touristy islands and monuments that most tourists normally visit.

The problem is that most of these places are unknown not only to tourists, but to most locals as well! Only locals residing close to specific places know about their existence, so the knowledge of the secret beauty of Greece is fragmented all around Greece. What we have tried to do in this book, is to gather this fragmented knowledge of secret places in Greece to one book. Many of those places are hardly on the map; some of them don’t even have road access, so in order to help the reader we provide accurate GPS coordinates for every one of the 50+1 places described in this book.

How the book is organised

Each place has a title that describes what the place is about. For example “Vai Palm Forest and Beach, Island of Crete” is about a beach and a forest called “Vai Palm Forest and Beach” and is located on the island of Crete. So, an easy to use descriptive title is the first part of each place’s description. After that we offer a small description or information about the place, followed by a quality picture of the place. As mentioned, accurate GPS coordinates are also offered at the end of each description text. For example, GPS coordinates for “Vai Palm Forest and Beach, Island of Crete” are 35.2584° N and 26.2615° E, in which “N” represents “North” in Latitude and “E” represents “East” in Longitude. You can easily input those coordinates in your GPS system or in your android or iOS mobile phone, and let your navigation system or even the free Google navigation- if you don’t have a purchased navigation application- easily guide you through!

Let us guide you through Greece’s top 51 secret places in a beautiful journey on which we will discover isolated exotic beaches, a magical valley full of butterflies, the hidden cave that Pythagoras, the renowned mathematician and philosopher, lived for a period of his life, the mystical Dragon houses on the island of Evia, hidden underground lakes and forgotten castle towns, ancient tombs from the mythical age of the Trojan war and unimaginably beautiful and picturesque villages that time and technology did not affect.
