Jasper : The X-Mas Deer
Christmas. There is no other time of year where the air can grow so cold and yet still be filled with so much cheer. From the oldest man to the youngest deer, every one is busy on getting ready for the holiday. They are stringing up twinkling lights and singing songs, building snowmen and picking out the perfect tree to decorate.
A hustling, bustling time of year, indeed! It is no different for young Jasper's family, just outside of the town of Roo. A family of deer, they do not hang up stockings nor do they put up lights. They, do however, help the forest critters look for the perfect, tallest, greenest tree in the entire forest!
It is Jasper's favorite part of the holiday season - in part, because it is the only thing that he is allowed to help with. You see, Jasper is not like the other deer. He has four legs and two eyes and a small black nose. His fur is brown and his antlers are just starting to come in, for he is still but a young thing. These things are normal.
What is not normal, how ever, is the size of his ears. They are great big things, floppy and soft, hanging down nearly to Jasper's knees. He cannot race through the snow with the other deer, for ears will trip him. He cannot sing carols with the woodland critters, for his ears are very sensitive.
He is an odd thing, that is for sure. And, some times, the other deer are not near as nice as they should be...
