As human beings, we are all searching for the same thing: happiness and some sense of meaning in our lives. Whoever we are, whether we are a mother, a father, a son or daughter, a businessman, an artist, a husband or wife, young or old, we all share this simple wish or goal. But nevertheless, often we struggle to fulfill this wish and end up feeling burdened with a sense of uneasiness and dissatisfaction.

Therefore, what Phakchok Rinpoche would like to share here are eight simple points that can help us lead a meaningful life and become a perfect human being, someone who can benefit themselves as well as others. These eight points or qualities are not specific to any one culture or creed, and though they are taught in detail in the Buddha's teachings, they are also spoken of in many other spiritual and non-spiritual traditions, because, as you will see, they are simple common sense. If we have these eight qualities, our lives will become meaningful whichever walk of life we choose to tread, but if we lack any one of these qualities we will inevitably encounter problems of one sort or the other.
