“Season of Migration to the North” by Tayeb Salih was first published in 1966. The novel was originally published in Arabic language.

Since its first publication in Arabic, the novel has been translated into more than thirty languages. It is a classic post-colonial Sudanese novel.

When there was Islamic government in Sudan, it was banned in Sudan for several years. In the novel there is some graphic sexual imagery in the second half of the novel and that was perhaps the biggest reason to ban the novel in Sudan.
