Mindshift: Getting A Job In Sports

Have you ever thought about working in sports? Many settle for something else that isn't even related to sports and go down a career path that doesn't seem very exciting. Unfortunately many people think they want to work in sports, but don't ever find the opportunity. This doesn't have to be the case. Yes, you have to realize that the sports job industry is very competitive - just like sports itself. However, there is a way to break through. It just takes a little different thinking - a mindshift. Most people overlook the opportunities right under their nose and give up on their dreams when they can't find the dream job the first time around. After working in and around the sports industry for almost 20 years, I have held various roles with different companies that have allowed me to become more engaged with sports than I ever imagined I would be. When I started out in college, I wasn't aware of any sports marketing or sports business degrees. Towards the end of my college years, I found a job doing something I enjoyed and actually got paid to do it. It didn't take long for me to realize that my company was also doing work in the sports world. I had to figure out how to get closer to that world. There was something about sports that just made sense to me - it also provided an electrifying rush that I would soon be addicted to.
