QUOTE UNQUOTE": QUOTATIONS THAT I LIKE (including audiobook link/version)
By Craig Lock
Quotes that I like: Sharing some of my favourite quotes, that have sustained, encouraged and even inspired me down the "writing path". So am sharing with you.
DEDICATION:
To my dear wife Marie and my beautiful (is that the right word for our sons?) twin boys , Gareth and Sean. You all mean so much to me that words can't say. You have made my
life a joyous happening. My work though , has been one huge sacrifice- one that I truly hope will one day pay dividends to all of us...and hopefully help other people make the
most of their undoubted potential. That is my reason for writing this work. Thanks 'guys'
for putting up with me while your 'old man' has been so absorbed in his 'damn' books!
Hopefully, one day you'll understand the "why and the wherefore"!

Thanks to my beloved wife , Marie for the laborious job of checking this manuscript... as well as retyping it after I had wiped the entire disc! (What a "silly bunt". ). Patience is a virtue which unfortunately I do not have - but my dear kind Marie has it in abundance.

INTRODUCTION
Being a bit of an intense individual who is also a trifle passionate , I have experienced
some of the highs and lows of life ...to the fullest. Writing and getting published is
certainly no easy task and the lot of the aspiring writer is one of them . However, I have
often found that words of wisdom from the past have been and still are a great help in
coping with the present - especially when one is feeling a bit low or seeing things out of
context. I believe there is so much wisdom in the written word. In addition, they can be a
guide to direct us in times of need, just like stars in the pitch black night sky can navigate
a ship through stormy and treacherous seas. In my last formal job as an insurance
manager, I used a number of quotations that I had collected over the years to "motivate and inspire the troops". Instead of collecting bottle tops, cards of rugby league players or
Dinky toys , I indulge myself in the rather unusual hobby of collecting precious words of
wisdom. Strange people these writers! However, I am not sure whether they did or didn't work on my staff (I rather think "sweeties and buns worked best here in small town New
Zealand); but I like them (the quotations as well as the buns ) anyway. I hope you do
too! This is one of my first manuscripts and a rather short one at that- just like the
author. I have grouped the quotations under different subjects, namely:
SUCCESS
LIFE IN GENERAL
A WINNING ATTITUDE
COURAGE
GOAL SETTING
ENTHUSIASM, ETC.
and
OTHER QUOTATIONS THAT I LIKE:
Author's Note:
In many cases , I do not know the authors of the quotes; so I have not been able to
include their names. I have often not included the words 'anon' to save myself time and
trouble. To you , the creators of these wise words, I offer my thanks for sharing your wisdom with me. I am sorry not to be able to give you your due recognition.
I have also included a separate section on motivational quotes for all salespeople and on
business in general ( see Part Two). These often helped me in my rather more formal
previous commercial career. But even if you are not in business , nor in sales you might
find them inspiring (or inspirational) as we journey through the game that is life. I do. ...
so time to get right into it / them and get "cracking" or "weaving" as my dear mother would say.
Everything in life begins with the mind 'methinks'. Our state of mind determines our
attitude to life and how happy we will be. Yes, it really is a case of 'mind over matter'. So
here are a few important quotations (at least I find them so) to gently lead you into the style and tone of this manuscript...
"The mind is limited only by the limits of one's imagination."
- William James
Yes, I definitely believe that our mind is our greatest resource. In this work I hope that you'll use your one quite a bit.
"The future is an undiscovered country , so look forward to it; but make sure you enjoy the present to the fullest."
- me
So time to get into the present and Chapter One: what is meant by being successful in
life?
CHAPTER ONE: WHAT IS SUCCESS?
The following quotations epitomise what success means for me...
'To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better;
whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know that one life has breathed easier
because you have lived;
This is to have succeeded. '

Bonus quote for you here
“If a man is called to be a street-sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”
- Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Together, one mind, one life at a time, let’s see how many people we can impact, encourage, empower, uplift and perhaps even inspire to reach their fullest potentials...and to strive for and perhaps even accomplish your wildest dreams”
