Nan Doyle’s stories always make me smile. Often it’s a wicked smile, sometimes a nostalgic one, and there’s always a smile of satisfaction. She has a gift for creating memorable characters whom we warm to in their human ordinariness (even when their circumstances are startling). These low-key yet quirky stories pack a punch — and they do it by sneaking up on you. Above all they’re very entertaining.

Nan Doyle lives on the east coast of Australia in far northern New South Wales. She has been writing for most of her long life, producing stories both realistic and fanciful, and she sometimes breaks out into verse. One of her poems read on the radio show Australia All Over was so popular that she received numerous requests for copies. Much of her work has a distinctively Aussie flavour, yet is accessible enough to delight people of widely different backgrounds.

A number of Nan’s stories have won prizes in competitions, and several have appeared in magazines and anthologies. Nevertheless her colleagues in WordsFlow Writers’ Group love and admire her work so much that we think it deserves more exposure and decided to attend to that ourselves. This will be the first of a series of eBooks by Nan Doyle, published by WordsFlow.
