Frank Gee Patchin (1861-1925) is an American author of over 200 adventure books. Many were published under various pseudonyms. During his life, he wrote many works that remain popular today. These included such series as "The Battleship Boys", "The Range" and "Grange Hustlers" and "The Pony Rider Boys". It is mainly of the western/ranching persuasion with plenty of adventure and danger thrown in, and is unashamedly aimed at boys. This latter series was one of the earliest examples of a children's pony series. His creation is truly brilliant and required reading.

It is one of the Pony Rider Boys series, which follows four friends, Tad Butler, Walter Perkins and Stacy 'Chunky' Brown, who had formed a riding club to seek fun and adventures all over the United States.
