This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of The Power of God are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.
In this book, we explore five topics, from different verses in the books of 2Chronicles and Ezra. They are: The glory of the Lord; About mercy and grace; Our eyes are on God; The hand of the Lord; Lessons in hope.
Excerpts:
The glory of the Lord
“Isaiah in his own encounter with the glory was also changed by it. At the beginning he shouted that he was unworthy to stand in the presence of God, but the fire of the presence, the purifying glory in the form of a coal of fire on the altar was taken by an angle to his tongue, purging him of the works of the flesh as regards to his flesh. The glory of God is the divine change agent.”
About mercy and grace
“But we must never forget that we were objects of the mercy of God and are forever objects of his mercy. We should not fall into the condemnation of the devil (1Timothy 3:6) thinking that we are anything apart from the mercy of God. That keeps us humble. We should constantly say like Jeremiah: it is by the mercy of God that we are not consumed because his compassion fails not (Lamentation 3:22).”
Our eyes are on God
“The devil made Eve to think that God was giving her the short end of the stick, that God does not really have her back, that God was against her and was able to move her from their stand of faith to a place of fear, and so, was captured in the web of the devil’s deceit. As they move their eyes away from God, they lost everything.”
The hand of the Lord
“In both the pleasant and the not so pleasant things, he recognised that the hand of God guided him in a grand scale plan in his own mind, far beyond what Joseph could have planned for himself. The hand of God can move the pieces of our lives with such dexterity that at the end we can say: checkmate. In the end we win.”
Lessons in hope
“When the devil convinced Eve that the thought of God for her was not for the best, she stopped hoping in the love of God, stopped seeing God as the God of love. When we lose the right picture of God as the God of love, we lose the right relationship with him. Jesus went to great length to introduce the God of love to us.”
