It is a drama which is about the transition from the old to the new dispensation.The book is set in two types of schools 1. (A Private Independent School and 2. A White "Public" School respectively.Black children were not allowed to learn together with white children whether in a private or "public" White school. After the black students riots of 1976, whit private schools began to admit black students in their schools. In the late eighties white public schools also began to admit black students into the public high schools which were referred to as Model Cs. Gradually Primary schools began to admit black learners as well. From 1994 all schools, private or public,were now required by Law to admit students of different races and all Model C Schools were scrapped.The Title of the book ZINQAMUKILE IZIBOPHO means the chains that bound people of all colours in general but Black students in particular were broken, everyone Black and White,Coloured and Indian were freed.
