Andrew Lang (1844 – 1912) was a Scots poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology. He is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales. The Andrew Lang lectures at the University of St Andrews are named after him. Lang was also a prolific author of works both fiction and non. "The Witch in the Stone Boat" is an Icelandic fairy tale, found in Andrew Lang's The Yellow Fairy Book. The sory is about Sigurd, a king’s son, told to marry a daughter of another king. The bride's king agreed to the match, on condition that Sigurd would stay and help him. Sigurd remained, until he received news of his father's death. He set sail for his homeland with his wife and son.
