Lorna had lived in the old farmhouse her entire life. She had also brought her family up there, but her children were a disappointment to her, because none of them was willing to take over the running of the farm from her.
As she got older she felt the need to make some decisions. She wanted the farm to remain a working farm, so the many workers that had lived on the farm for generations could continue to live there, but no easy solution came to mind. That is until a young woman told Lorna that she wanted to study Agriculture, and since she had known the girl and her mother for years, this seemed like the obvious solution to a complex problem.
Lorna's younger son, Alex, was a lawyer, so he was about to draw up a new Will for Lorna. He warned her that her decision would have some far reaching repercussions within the family.
Lorna said she knew this and that because she wanted to ensure that not only the farm but also the gifts she wanted to bestowe on the girl and her mother would not fall into the hands of Jack and her two daughters, she had come up with a plan.
An unusual plan that involved packing some goods into a secure box and hiding it in a cave on the farm, until the Will was read and the farm was securly in the new owners hands.
This is a story about changing times in South Afraica and also the farming community. It is also about conflict within a family when they discover they have lost their inheritance due to their mother's unusual decision.
